Frequently Asked Questions

What makes me at risk for a fall?

There are a lot of reasons why someone might be at risk for a fall. The most common indicators are a history of previous falls, strength, flexibility, dizziness, and confidence.

Is there a way to protect myself if I'm falling?

In general, the flatter you land, the more spread out the impact, but if you can only protect one part of your body- protect your head. Head injuries such as concussions and strokes are common when adults fall and hit their head. If you hit your head during a fall, call 911 immediately, even if you're feeling well!!!

What do I do If I fall?

The longer you stay on the floor, the worse the outcome will be. If you can crawl or otherwise get yourself to a phone to dial 911 as soon as possible, the better the chances limiting your injuries.

Aren't falls just a part of aging?

NO! Your age plays a role in how likely you are to fall, but it doesn't have to guarantee a fall! Focused and directed exercise from a physical therapist can help reduce your risk tremendously! If you have any questions about which exercises are best for you, reach out to us at (646)733-4737
